Komatsu Utility Corporation (KUC) has expanded its line of products with three new tight tail swing compact excavators: the PC20MRx, PC30MRx and the PC40MRx.

These three models feature Komatsu’s exclusive HydrauMind hydraulic system with Closed Center Hydraulics and Load Sensing System (CLSS) which bring the utility and construction markets greater power and productivity from smaller machines.

“The Komatsu Utility MRx series compact excavators enables the contractor to operate under extremely tight conditions with the stability and lifting capacities equal to conventional excavator machines,” said Hank Yasuhara, director of product marketing for KUC.

The HydrauMind hydraulic system consists of a single variable flow hydraulic pump, and an “intelligent” hydraulic circuit that allows the machine to react almost instantly to a specific operator control. The CLSS circuit, together with the variable flow hydraulic pump, means that only the amount of oil necessary for ensuring high operating pressure is generated and used. This system guarantees greater operator efficiency, lower fuel consumption and quiet operation.

Yasuhara explained that another advanced feature is the Pressure Proportional Control (PPC) joystick. A PPC valve built into the joystick circuit enables an operator to actually “feel” the movement of the machine. “Even a relatively semi-skilled operator can work with unequalled precision and smooth, precise control using all the functions at the same time,” he said.

To help ensure that these machines continue to operate efficiently and effectively under the most demanding construction projects, Komatsu engineered the MRx series with a variety of service and maintenance features. First, high strength brass bushings are used in the boom, arm and blade which extends greasing intervals to 500 hours. Multiple access doors allow for easy access to the engine, hydraulic pumps and main valve. All normal maintenance points (fluid checks, fill points, and filters) are grouped together and easy to reach. In addition, gauges and indicators provide “at a glance” information for fuel level, hydraulic fluid level, air cleaner, battery/charging, system, oil pressure and coolant temperature readings.

The PC20MRx is 2,291 kilograms (5,050 lbs.), and rated at 14 kilowatts (18.7 hp), with a maximum digging depth of 2.4 meters (7 ft. 9 in.), the PC30MRx is 3,302 kilograms (7,280 lbs.), and rated at 21 kilowatts (27.6 hp), with a maximum digging depth of 3 meters (9 ft. 6 in.), while the PC40MRx is 4,481 kilograms (9,880 lbs.), and rated at 28 kilowatts (37.8 hp), with a maximum digging depth of 3.4 meters (11 ft. 2 in.).

“Together,” concluded Yasuhara, “the MRx series represents Komatsu Utility and Komatsu America’s ongoing effort to offer the most complete line of utility products in North America today.”
