Ransome Rents is stretching its legs into the Pottstown area by adding a fourth facility in Limerick, PA.

Ransome Rents’ fourth location features more than just the basic Caterpillar line up – contractors also can rent aerial equipment, air compressors and air tools, paving and compaction equipment, concrete and masonry equipment, electrical equipment, material handling equipment and pumping equipment, among other things.

According to Giles & Ransome President Wayne Bromley, one of Ransome Rents’ main advantages is that the company is backed by Giles & Ransome’s entire inventory.

“Ransome Rents has the unique ability to source out products from Giles & Ransome. For example, Giles & Ransome carries large portable generator setups and chillers … things that normally aren’t provided by rental services,” Bromley explained. “Our hope is to be a single source to customers.”

Ransome Rents currently has three other locations – The original location in Allentown, PA, a second store in Atlantic City, NJ, and a third store in Wilmington, DE.

According to Giles & Ransome Vice President Ken Bryant, the company is planning to open a fifth store along the I-95 corridor near Philadelphia within the next year.

“There’s a national trend among contractors moving toward the rental utilization of equipment instead of ownership. Twenty percent of equipment on the average site is now rented,” Bryant explained. “Caterpillar did a market study to determine locations that will have the greatest rental opportunities for each of its dealers, so we already had a good idea of where to open each Ransome Rents facility.”

The creation of Ransome Rents has introduced a number of new customers to Giles & Ransome. About 60 percent of Ransome Rents’ customers are new to Giles & Ransome, Bryant said.

“One of our hopes is for these customers to grow with us and utilize our other divisions,” Bromley said.

Giles & Ransome’s name, however, in addition to the fact that it has been in business since 1916 and has 14 locations throughout the Tri-State area, has helped draw customers to Ransome Rents.

Tom Hahn has been named branch manager of the Limerick facility, and two salesmen will be available to assist customers as well. The salesmen have rental experience, having worked with other rentals companies prior to joining Giles & Ransome.
