Skanska USA Building Inc. has been selected to provide preconstruction and construction management services for the $44.5-million contract of the second Medical Sciences Building (MSB II) at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond, VA. The architect of record if Ballinger, based in Philadelphia, PA, in association with Commonwealth Architects of Richmond.

The 125,000-sq.-ft. MSB II project is expected to be completed by June 2008. The building will be used primarily for education and research, with laboratories located throughout the building. The new addition will be adjoined to the existing Konto’s Medical Sciences Building (MSB I). A stadium-style lecture hall will be part of the ground floor.

“Skanska was very excited to be awarded the MSB II project,” said Scott MacLeod, area general manager. “Having just successfully completed the Massey Cancer Center project, which is 500 feet from the new project location, and utilizing the same team, we are looking forward to continuing our outstanding relationship with the VCU team.”

In addition to these projects, Skanska also is working on other campuses in the southeast, including Duke University, North Carolina State University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and East Carolina University.
