Construction began in May 2018 on the California Department of Transportation's (Caltrans) $150.7 million Interstate 710 Pavement Rehabilitation and Bridge Widening Project, which was awarded to Flatiron Construction Corporation in February 2018. Crews have been making solid progress on the project that covers a 3.5-mi.

It's hard to miss the purple logging truck driven by Alex "Tater" Opdahl for Whitco Inc. , a trucking company owned by Rick and Barb Whitcomb in Kamiah, Idaho. Whitco was founded on Sept. 5, 1984. On the day Rick married Barb, Rick's father escorted the couple to Farmers State Bank in Uniontown, Wash., to get a loan for a 1977 Peterbilt 359.

Jeff Martin Auctioneers Inc. once again hosted a Permian Basin Unreserved Auction at 2923 Interstate 20 in Stanton (Midland), Texas, on Oct. 9. This auction featured a large quantity of aerial equipment, construction equipment, heavy trucks, oilfield support items, welders, generators and trailers.

The Portsmouth International Airport is currently served by only one airline and has embarked on a construction project to improve the facility and entice additional airlines to sign on. "We've had airlines come in and kick the tires and we've gotten good feedback, but other airports are further along," said Michael Mates, engineering project manager of Pease Development Authority, which oversees operations at the Pease Tradeport, where the airport is located.

With roughly 500 people taking part, it was one of the best open house turnouts TLG has ever seen. TLG, a Peterbilt dealer company with more than 20 locations, recently moved its Charlotte, N.C., operation to 3917 Trailer Drive, a five-minute drive from its former location.

Peterbilt Motors Company recently announced enhancements to the Peterbilt SmartNav system. As part of the enhancements Peterbilt will now offer the PeopleNet app fully integrated into the SmartNav display, eliminating the need for PeopleNet users to wire and install a secondary device.

In an event at the new PACCAR Innovation Center, Peterbilt displayed current developmental projects, including a Level 4 autonomous truck and two Class 8 electric trucks. The PACCAR Innovation Center is coordinating next-generation research and identifying emerging technologies that will benefit future vehicle performance.

Peterbilt Motors Company announced that the PACCAR MX-11 engine is now available with the PACCAR Transmission. The PACCAR 12-speed automated transmission is the lightest heavy duty automated transmission on the market, designed to work seamlessly with PACCAR engines and axles to increase fuel economy and truck performance, according to the manufacturer.

Peterbilt Motors Company announced two new options for Models 567 and 579 trucks: the alert switch and the pass-through seat. These features were designed with input from influential driver groups like the Women in Trucking Association. Located in the sleeper control panel, the alert switch is an alarm that behaves like a panic button on a car, flashing external lights and sounding alarms when activated.
