Telematics

Communication facilitates business. But even though people have been communicating for thousands of years, we are by no means perfect at the artform. That is especially true in the heavy construction industry where there are many moving pieces, changes are fluid and costs can quickly add up.

Doosan Infracore North America LLC, recently updated its DoosanCONNECT telematics management system to include cellular service for the life of the Doosan machine. Satellite coverage will remain included for 36 months at no cost. DoosanCONNECT telematics is available for Doosan excavators, wheel loaders, material handlers, log loaders and articulated dump trucks.

Since its inception in 2000, the K-Tec scraper has always been designed as a technologically advanced machine. K-Tec has spent years of research and development in refining the optimal earthmoving scraper and leading the industry in revolutionary product technologies.

Telematics products have proven to be excellent tools for construction crane fleet asset management — when users effectively maximize the return on their investment. Though technology adoption is high, functionality is low because crane owners are only skimming the surface of what these systems can do.

Mack Trucks announced Geotab Drive for Mack Trucks, which leverages cloud computing via Geotab, a global leader in IoT and connected transportation, to deliver reliable Electronic Logging Data (ELD) and Compliance services. Mack made the announcement during the American Trucking Associations (ATA) Management Conference & Exhibition (MC&E) at the San Diego Convention Center.

For equipment owners, nothing is more important than machine uptime. The same is true for Volvo CE, and the results of two years of concerted efforts to improve uptime services bear this out: Nearly 100 percent enrollment increase in the ActiveCare Directadvanced telematics service since fall 2018— plus a growing list of machine models eligible for the program and additional case alerts for improved machine monitoring.

MID: 140, PSID: 15, FMI: 8 — many construction equipment owners and fleet managers have been hit with round after round of confusing fault codes like this as part of their telematics systems. Instead of deciphering a large number of fault codes, Volvo CE customers with an ActiveCare Direct subscription receive a simple case alertby e-mail about the most urgent issues.

When looking for a used piece of equipment, you may ask yourself if it's smarter to invest in one with low hours. But the answer to that question isn't always black and white. For one, many people might assume too quickly that a wheel loader with 2,000 hours is in better shape than one with 8,000 hours — but that's not necessarily the case.

Developed in direct response to rental customers' unique business needs, the Genie Lift Connect program is a telematics offering focused on actionable information, flexibility and transparency. No matter what size of aerial equipment fleet — from 10 to 10,000 machines — equipment management is something that rental stores do every day.

Work your equipment …. Work your data, too. That's exactly the way Scottsdale, Ariz., based Foresight Intelligence sees it. Founded in 2010, the company started out as a business software company — a few years later, by “accident,” said Foresight founder and CEO Dale Hanna, the company decided to apply its software expertise to heavy equipment telematics.
